In 2013, Project Weber became witness to the opiate overdose epidemic that began to sweep through our communities. We immediately had all of our staff educated on how to identify and respond to an overdose, as well as being trained in how to administer Narcan (a drug used to reverse an opiate overdose).
In 2014, we realized we must do even more! We partnered with Miriam Hospital's PONI (Preventing Overdose and Naloxone Intervention) Program, and began spreading our knowledge to the surrounding communities in hopes of saving more lives. We offer trainings both one on one, and to large groups. To date, we have distributed over 200 kits of Narcan in Rhode Island, and trained countless organizations in how to apply effective overdose prevention techniques.
Project Weber is a firm believer in second chances. Although struggling with addiction or bearing the impact of addiction leads to feelings of hopelessness and despair, we are here to say that "Where there is breath, There is Hope!" Hope that any person may recover and find a new way to live. The trick is to keep them alive long enough for that miracle to happen.
